Sara, like many moms these days, is a full time working mom trying to balance her work with her children’s schedules.
“Some days are a little crazier than others, but we make it work. The girls’ dad works crazy hours, leaving before the sun comes up and sometimes working past the ‘normal working hours,’” she shared with us.
This leaves Sara in charge of not only getting her girls (three-year-old Lily and one-year-old Carter) up and to daycare, but picking them up at the end of the day AND making sure that they all have dinner on the table. In addition, the girls have swimming lessons throughout the year they need to be taken to and picked up from. Oh, and did we mention she works full time? Can you say Super Mom?
“I am thankful to have my husband, who helps around the house, so our girls can have my full attention as needed, and I’m not left with everything…. work, kids, household, etcetera. I am definitely an attachment mommy and do my best navigating their emotions to help them better process what they are feeling,” she said.
“Lily is a full on Mama’s Girl, while Carter is a Daddy’s Girl. We have both girls in swimming lessons throughout the year and we belong to a summer swim club. They are both naturals and love the water. Lily is also showing an interest in gymnastics and loves to ride her bike! Carter is our little funny girl, with so much personality, but is also the love bug, giving hugs and snuggles all of the time!”
When Sara saw our Renaissance of Mom sessions, she thought it was such a cool and unique opportunity to stop and capture her relationship with her girls at this stage in their lives.
“It just felt like it was something that I wanted to be a part of and the pictures of Erika with her babies was something I haven’t seen offered from other photographers. I am also a breastfeeding mom. At the time I was nursing, (and still am), both girls. I thought it was a perfect opportunity to not only capture these memories for our family, but to show that extended breastfeeding was normal and okay.”
One thing she says she truly appreciated about her session with her girls was how comfortable and natural she felt, which is such an important ingredient to create authentic images.
“Having done a solo boudoir prior, I know that the studio was a safe place to be yourself. However, my first shoot was with Mike and not Erika, so I wasn’t sure what her style was. When we started I knew right away that Erika was just as wonderful as Mike. I was at ease very quickly, and there were some points that I didn’t have my top on and wasn’t embarrassed, it just felt natural. Overall the whole experience of the Renaissance Mom exceeded my expectations!”
Sara says the session left her with such strong feelings of love; love for both herself and for her little family.
“Love that my husband was on board with the girls and I doing a session together. The love that comes through in all of the pictures between my girls and I, and the ones of just the girls together.”
She chose an album in a gorgeous peacock blue as well as a canvas of both her girls.
“We have the book safely stored in the box it came in on our piano bench and the canvas hangs above the piano in the living room,” she said.
As she mentioned above, this is actually Sara’s second experience with us. She met us a few years back at a bridal show and decided to do a solo boudoir session as a surprise anniversary gift to her now husband.
“Mike was amazing! He made me feel so comfortable right away. He would always ask to try something during the shoot and made sure I was comfortable with it. For example, I had brought some of my husband’s sports jerseys. One was a button down and Mike felt it would be better if nothing was under it. By then I was so comfortable and knew I was in a safe place that it wasn’t a big deal. Following this, we got one of the best pictures of the day using the chandelier!”
Sara is enthusiastic about recommending us to other families.
“I would absolutely recommend that mothers and families book a photo shoot! It was such a magical experience and hope I get to do it again in the future!”
